Scholarship

My scholarship lives at the intersection of theatre, geography, queer theory, and pop culture. I have written about plays, parades, puppets, and pie-eating contests as dynamic and vital forms of performance.
Stemming from my own upbringing in the North Country of New Hampshire, I am particularly invested in shining a light on theatre in and about rural America. My dissertation project Backcountry Onstage: Rural Theatricality and the Performance of Nostalgia interrogates the role of rural identity and cultural memory in theatre and performance in New England. While theatre is often associated with big cities, there are vibrant and innovative theatre artists and companies in rural areas throughout the United States.
